Reflection:

Based on the direction given for this assignment, we selected a Holocaust Infographic that might be useful for our 10_1 project. We searched Google images and located one entitled “Legislation of the Holocaust”, available through a website known as COETail: A Community Approach to Learning. The infographic is copy-right friendly and the Creative Commons symbol was found on the website. We researched the source of this infographic and discovered it was created by the Author using statistics from __www.ushmm.org__, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The link was provided, which we searched and determined it was a credible site by using the Easy button on Google Chrome.
This infographic portrays powerful images of the casualties of the Holocaust. The author does an excellent job with the choices of the images and incorporates impactful statistics. The author explains the intent was to summarize in graphic form, the fact that the damage of the Holocaust did not happen overnight. It began subtly in 1933, and culminated in the horror of the beginning of the use of gas chambers in 1941. This is somewhat misleading by the use of the final date of 1941, because the six million victims were exterminated through 1945, so that is one feature that would need clarification, in our opinion.


We were able to determine that this infographic was created by a teacher, but the author’s name was not visible or noted on infographic nor was it evident on the original site. This made it difficult to verify the credibility of the individual creator. The design and graphics were very pleasing and not overpowering. The arrow along side shows a progression in the message. Colors used were complementary. The use of larger numbers, alternating colors, and images helps to communicate message very clearly. It was created in 2012, so it represents a current and relevant source of information for the Intended audience of students and other teachers who were studying the power of visual communication.


Although there were a couple weak points on the infographic, we feel the overall message is credible, based on verifiable facts at a qualified web site, and relevance to the assignment, as well as overall knowledge of the history of the Holocaust. Regarding the title of the Infographic, we initially felt the title was somewhat ambiguous. We then analyzed the infographic further and determined the title did match the intent of the graphic, but we still believe a clearer title could have been selected.
