Kelly and Kathleen have been working together towards a comprehensive Holocaust project for Mod 10, utilizing the lessons and learning the tools presented in each module.
For the Mod 8 Database project, we consulted at the beginning of the week and agreed to work through the playlist independently in order to gain information to select our favorite database. After some discussion, we both agreed to work with SIRS Discoverer, because we both have access to this valuable tool at our current school location, and we felt it was the most comprehensive of the databases we had access to. Using Web 2.0 collaborative tools, Google Docs, Easely.ly, and Thinglink, we spent several hours on the phone while also on the collaboration tools, and designed the Infographic together. We then took some time to work further independently, and Kelly uploaded the Infographic to Thinglink while Kathleen drafted the tag descriptions and reflection.
We felt SIRS was a superior database for our Holocaust project mainly because it offered students a single location for multiple media, websites, newspapers, magazines, reference materials, graphics, dictionary definitions and thesaurus results.
Mod 8 Discussion Post thread topic - defending your databases from a budget cut
For fun.... I created an infograh poster using SMore. It is titled "Databases Give Your Search Power". I used the information on the poster in my discussion response and thought it would be useful to create a poster using that information.
