Instructional Story Topic: Presentation Reform

Title: "Put the POW into Your Presentation"

Created using Wideo

Target Audience: Middle School Students

Designed with my Mod 10 Holocaust project in mind.

Reflection:

To create this assignment, we had many web tools/ options available to us. The first thing I decided was that I wanted to use a video tool. I have not had the chance to utilize videos and wanted to the chance to learn one of these tools. I looked at and played around with a few video tools. I also noticed that another classmate had used a new video tool called Wideo (www.wideo.co). She found it very easy to use. After looking around and seeing Wideo in action, I decided to use it to create my digital instructional story.

It was very easy to use. The only part that was frustrating was the timing & animation of objects on each screen. After a few tries I finally mastered this part. Wideo offered a catalog of images, objects, and music readily available to the creator. And it also allowed the creator to upload images and music (mp3 files) of their own. I liked this feature of the website. It was fun to use.

As for the topic of the instructional story, I decided to create a video on presentation reform. This topic is a great addition to my Mod 10 project on the Holocaust. Eighth grade students do a Holocaust research assignment in their Language Arts class. Most of them do a Power Point presentation. It is my hope that I can start with next year’s 8th graders in reforming their presentations and battling the “Death by Power Point” that is occurring at our school.

With a little instruction, Wideo would be a great tool for students to use. I think they will enjoy the easy to use format, the pre-existing catalog of images, backgrounds, & music, and the upload feature that allows you to upload your own images and music.
